Silver Stars Fitness is a NYC fitness company/studio that helps men & women over 60 get stronger, move, feel & look better WITHOUT having to be in a typical “GYM” environment.
At Silver Stars, a big part of our program is helping our clients/members improve their balance and reduce their risk of falling.
You might have noticed that once you turned sixty, your balance is not as good as it was a decade before. You might not feel as confident going up/ down steps, navigating obstacles, or being in a crowded environment.
You think twice about getting into a bathtub with the fear of not being able to get up or lose balance while trying to get up, or maybe you’re not comfortable with going down and getting up from the floor or playing with your grandkids, especially when on the floor.
You go on vacation, and sometimes you’re unable to participate in an activity because of the fear of falling.
Lack of balance affects our quality of life by robbing us of the confidence to move freely and do the things we love.
Unfortunately, if you feel like your balance is declining, you’re not alone.
Facts about Falls
35% of people over the age of 65 will injure or fracture a wrist, shoulder, low back, head, knee, or hip.
40% of people who suffer a hip fracture will die within one year.
Every 18 seconds, a person over the age of 65 will fall.
The good news is you can improve your balance and decrease risk for a fall by performing the right balance exercises for you and, of course, engage in a regular strength training program that addresses the muscles of your foot, ankles, hips, thighs, buttocks, and abdominals.
If you feel you need to improve your balance and reduce your risk of falling, we can help.
