Wellness is one of the biggest travel trends in 2026. In fact, it’s been a growing phenomenon for nearly a decade, but with demand for wellness travel hitting a fever pitch, destinations around the world are working to welcome wellness-focused travelers in new ways.

As ever, Bali is ahead of the game and is attracting tourists for world-class wellness experiences across every generation.

There is one generation of travelers that Bali is increasingly interested in impressing, and that is Gen Z. This is a generation that gets a lot of flak from their elders, but Bali is welcoming these young travelers with open arms.

For decades, Bali has been the number one destination for young backpackers from all corners of the globe. It’s becoming something of a rite of passage for young people to travel to the island, whether it’s for cultural immersion or spiritual awakenings, and now for wellness resets.

The team behind the internationally acclaimed BaliSpirit Festival has been talking to reporters ahead of the big event to be held from 15th to 19th April.

As a team of highly experienced event coordinators, wellness tourism trendsetters, and business leaders, the BaliSpirit Festival team knows a thing or two about the travel space.

Speaking to reporters this weekend, Co-Founder of the Bali Spirit Festival and The Yoga Barn, Made Gunarta, explained how the younger generations no longer view health solely as a response to illness, but rather as a lifestyle.

He noted how wellness trends, including yoga, meditation, and even healing trips and retreats, are now popular among young people, especially Gen Z, who are inspired to travel by what they see on social media.

Gunarta shared, “Life’s paradigm is different now. While people used to be less concerned about health, now young people are starting to seek out wellness.”

He noted that social media has a lot to answer for in the way it inspires young travelers to explore. Social media not only highlights new destinations and experiences, but the photogenic nature of destinations is also a huge decision factor for young tourists.

He explained how he sees a growing trend for Gen Z and younger tourists to seek experiences that can be shared on social media, such as unique places, usual activities, and spiritual or wellness experiences that are deemed to create out of the ordinary vacations.

Events like the BaliSpirit Festival are an example of this. The team has been working for years to ensure that the festival itself continues to grow and evolve, and a big part of that is its reach on social media.

Gunarta explained, “Generation Z has incredible social media power. They often seek out photogenic spots, seek new experiences, and now their lifestyle often combines business, lifestyle, and health.“

It is not only the BaliSpirit Festival team who are working to showcase the best of Bali’s wellness offerings, but the national tourism board too. Wonderful Indonesia has chosen three specific areas of tourism to focus on promoting to both domestic and international audiences.

Gastronomy, maritime, and wellness tourism are key focus areas for Wonderful Indonesia, and with Bali, the nation’s flagship destination, these areas are being promoted especially in Bali.

Wellness tourism experiences in Bali are increasingly accessible and affordable. Wellness experiences, such as a yoga or meditation class at The Yoga Barn, cost as little as IDR 165,000.

Wellness treatments like massages can be found across Bali’s top resorts areas for IDR 60,000 for 30 minutes. These kinds of drop-in, low-cost wellness experiences are being more frequently peppered into vacation itineraries by travelers of all ages and demographics.

Of course, Bali really comes into a league of its own in terms of luxury wellness experiences. From retreats like Fiveelements Retreat through to 5-star spa resort escapes like Como Shambhala Estate, tourists who want to fully immerse themselves in a wellness reset can do so with ease in Bali.

BaliSpirit Festival will be held at The Yoga Barn in Ubud from 15th-19th April 2026. For more details and tickets, click here
