There’s a scene in Confessions of a Shopaholic—a vastly underrated move in my opinion—where upon a friend going to open a jammed armoire, the leading lady belts, “DON’T OPEN THAT CLOSET.” I’m ashamed to admit that this has become a phrase that I utter all too often. Thankfully, my full-to-the-brim storage situation is like so because of gifts and samples, and not because of detrimental spending habits. However the collateral so to speak is that it can be hard to keep abundance organized. So, my answer is to put it in small bags and throw said small bags onto a closet shelf.

Of course this means that when I inevitably need something, I have to do quite a bit of riffling to find it. I’m looking for my favorite peachy Isamaya cream blush, is it in the pink Dôen bag or the vintage Celine makeup case? You get the idea. But recently I made the decision to do the one thing a maximalist hates: consolidate. My form of consolidation came in the form of the perfect Vanity Case. Leatherology, size XL. I said I wanted to be organized, not an overnight minimalist.

Let me tell you, I have not looked back since this case arrived on my doorstep. It’s roomy and sizable at 10.25” W x 6.5” D x7.5” H. This translates into ample space that can be cordoned off into categories, with room for full-size bottles (like a good setting mist for example) and to layer a palette or two on top, and still be able zip shut. I have been able to house my full beauty routine, complete with multiple bottles of foundation, a powder compact, four to five bronzer and blush palettes, my favorite cream blush sticks in nearly every shade I own, as well as my concealer in the base, while I zip my go-to mascaras, brow gel, and various eye products into the top compartment. And there’s room to spare!

I’m of the mentality that you don’t use what you can’t see, so I am finding that I get that much more use out of my everyday heroes because they are easily within reach. There are also more organization specs like large and small bands to secure bottles and hair ties, for example, as well as two interior zipper pockets. In other words, everything has a place, and it’s much easier to find and get the use I want out of it. This has both streamlined my getting ready process, but more importantly, when I am done, I just zip it all in and tuck the vanity case onto its shelf. No post glam radial blast to go through when I get home.

I got the beautiful burgundy leather version, which I anticipate will get a beautiful patina over time on the exterior. It’s so pretty that I actually don’t mind leaving it out. Overall, it’s a permanent solution that is just as pretty as what it holds for me daily. There’s simply nothing better than something that makes life easier.
