Unilever has tapped into the scalp care boom this year, rolling out new Dove and Clear products targeting dandruff and overall scalp health. Reflecting the ongoing “skinification” of haircare, the formulations incorporate high-performance ingredients typically reserved for premium skincare.

The move targets a fast-growing scalp care segment, where anti-dandruff leads demand. Worth US$103.94 billion in 2024, the global hair and scalp care market is forecast to expand at 6.4% annually through 2030 [1].

Developed with dermatologists, the new Dove Derma Scalp Collection is a regimen designed to protect and nourish the scalp moisture barrier as the foundation for stronger, healthier-looking hair, because great hair begins at the scalp.

As the scalp is also skin, the line is packed with nourishing ingredients more often found in high-end skin care, such as glycerine and niacinamide (vitamin B3). Glycerine, a well-known prebiotic, works to soothe dryness and moisturise the scalp while caring for the scalp’s microbiome. Niacinamide strengthens and moisturises the scalp barrier while zinc and peptides nourish the follicle and fortify hair at the root.

Inspired by skincare science the line addresses the full spectrum of scalp concerns, including density boost (shampoo, conditioner, scalp serum), dandruff relief (shampoo and conditioner), oil control (shampoo), barrier repair (scalp serum), and dandruff & itch relief (shampoo and conditioner). According to Unilever, it delivers visible performance without compromising hair health.

“We know consumers are increasingly seeking holistic care that provides proven dermatological efficacy while also offering indulgent textures and fragrances as well as stylish packaging,” explains Eric Han, Unilever Head of R&D, Beauty & Wellbeing, North Asia and Global Scalp Innovation Lead. “The scalp care sector is undergoing a premiumisation shift, especially within the masstige segment. That’s exactly what we are delivering.”
