BA.3.2, or “Cicada,” a highly mutated Omicron descendant carries multiple spike protein changes that may help it partially evade existing immunity, making reinfections more likely. Early data suggest children may be overrepresented in some cases, but this remains preliminary and the mechanism is not fully understood. Importantly, there is no clear evidence so far that it causes more severe disease in kids.
