A new gym in Rio Vista is set to open April 13, restoring local fitness access and contributing to small business activity in the area.
RIO VISTA, Calif. — A new fitness center opening in Rio Vista this month is adding to local business activity while restoring a service that has been limited in recent years.
Rio Fit 2 is scheduled to open April 13, following a preview period on April 11 and 12. The facility moves into a market where a previous gym closure reduced access to full-service fitness options, often requiring residents to travel out of the city.
Owner Eric Lomeli said the project was driven by both demand and familiarity with the community.
“I’ve grown very fond of it. It’s home for me,” Lomeli said. “I just love being involved with the community and helping people out.”
The gym includes strength and cardio equipment along with personal training, aiming to consolidate services in one location. Lomeli said restoring that access was a key factor in opening the business.
“It’s a full functioning gym for all levels,” he said. “The biggest initiative is to help out and motivate everyone.”
Like many small business efforts, the project faced cost considerations, particularly in balancing pricing with operating expenses. Lomeli said affordability was a priority during planning.
“Trying to give the right pricing to the community and still establish a good foundation,” he said.
Beyond its business role, the gym is expected to contribute through local engagement, including potential support for school programs and community groups.
A soft opening will allow residents to tour the facility and sign up ahead of launch. Lomeli said the focus is on building steady participation over time.
“My goal is for it to grow and be more involved with the community,” he said.
