If you’re looking for a true Hill Country escape that blends relaxation, design, and a little bit of magic, Folklore Spa at Camp Lucy delivers exactly that—and then some.

Tucked away in the rolling landscape of Dripping Springs, Camp Lucy is already known for its serene views and romantic charm—but now, it’s home to something even more immersive: Folklore Spa, a wellness destination that feels like stepping into another world entirely.

From the moment you arrive, Folklore Spa invites guests into a space that blends luxury, storytelling, and global inspiration. With curated antiques, rich textures, and thoughtfully designed rooms, the spa feels less like a traditional wellness facility and more like a living, breathing art installation.

“It really is a love letter to our travels,” said Hanks. “We go and travel, collect antiques and folk art, and bring it back. The effect is feeling like you’ve traveled far, but it’s all intentional. Every space is curated so you can just feast your eyes on it.”

That philosophy is reflected throughout the spa, where no detail is accidental. From vintage pieces sourced across Europe to custom-designed elements created by international artists, every corner tells a story.

“There was an artist I found in England that I fell in love with,” Hanks shared. “I asked her to create 200 individual pieces of art. She told me she couldn’t think of that many, so I sent her a list of everything I wanted—and each piece became part of our story here.”

Personal touches are woven into the design as well, including tributes to family, travel, and shared experiences.

“This is my husband and I, and our dogs, our wedding cake, and our ring,” Hanks said. “It symbolizes our love. There are a lot of touches of my husband and myself throughout our projects. It works like our marriage—I go big on color and wallpaper, and he grounds it with antiques.”

Even the architecture itself tells a story. One of the spa’s most striking features includes antique doors sourced from India, weathered by time and rich with history.

“These doors are from India,” she said. “They’re so old and weathered, and I just love the hardware. Antiques give a space soul—every piece here tells a story.”

That sense of storytelling continues throughout the property, including in the spa’s naming inspiration. Folklore Spa is housed in a repurposed structure from Vietnam, filled with carved details that reflect traditional folktales and symbolism.

“We named it Folklore because of the carvings and the stories within the beams,” Hanks said. “You’ll see folktales throughout the design, like the crane and the turtle—it represents friendship and how we can’t live life alone.”

Wellness at Folklore Spa is designed to be shared, not siloed. Guests are encouraged to relax, connect, and experience the space beyond traditional spa expectations.

“We have a real joyful approach to wellness,” Hanks said. “We believe you should be surrounded by things you love. We even have social spaces where you can enjoy conversation, games, and books—this isn’t a place where we shush you.”

That philosophy extends into the spa’s treatment philosophy as well. With 11 uniquely designed treatment rooms, each space is styled like a residential bedroom rather than a clinical spa room, creating a sense of comfort and calm.

“I practice color therapy,” Hanks said. “When you go into a room with different colors, they embrace you. We wanted it to feel residential, not clinical—so you feel calm the moment you walk in.”

Folklore Spa also elevates the wellness experience with luxury treatments and globally sourced skincare lines, including rare offerings not commonly found in Texas.

“What makes us really special is our curated services and expert team,” said Welsh. “We use luxury European skincare lines, and we’re the only spa in Texas that carries Irene Forte. But truly, it’s the people and the experience that set us apart.”

Guests are encouraged to spend the entire day at the spa, turning their visit into a full wellness ritual rather than a single appointment.

“You can come as early as 8 a.m., enjoy coffee, go for a hike, and spend the day using the amenities,” Welsh said. “We have yoga, Pilates, sound baths, a sauna with Hill Country views, a heated pool, cold plunges, and even dining options like sweet potato fries and champagne.”
