Sandy Balls Holiday Village unveils Song of the Forest wellness experience for guests

A holiday in the New Forest park will unveil a new wellness experience designed to help guests switch off and reconnect with the natural world.

Sandy Balls Holiday Village, located in Fordingbridge, is set to launch Song of the Forest this May, a sensory experience which blends technology with sounds from its natural environment for an immersive escape.

Set in Acorn Place, the Song of the Forest uses technology to translate the electromagnetic signals of trees into calming sounds and light for visitors to enjoy.

Whilst guests unwind beneath the trees, silent disco headphones will deliver this the natural symphony in a meditative and immersive format.

Rosie-Ellis Brothwood, general manager at Sandy Balls Holiday Village, said: “In a world that rarely slows down, reconnecting with nature has never been more important.

“Stepping away from the pace of everyday life is key to truly switching off, and the natural landscape offers a simple way to do just that.

“Our Song of the Forest experience gives our guests the perfect opportunity to disconnect and relax into the sounds of nature.”

According to organisers, the launch of this unique event was inspired by a surge in interest in forest inspired wellness.

Away Resorts, which operates the holiday village, published a new travel report revealing that 69 percent of British holidaymakers prioritise relaxation above all else when choosing a break.

Seventy percent find the sound of rustling leaves relaxing, while 78 percent say birdsong helps them unwind and, over a third (34 percent) of Brits always or often use nature sounds, such as forest sounds, to fall asleep.

Away Resorts partnered with Dr Kate Mason, a chartered clinical psychologist, to explain why nature has such a calming effect.

Dr Mason said: “One reason is that natural sensory input tends to be gentle, rhythmic and predictable.

“Think about sounds such as waves, wind in trees, or birdsong; these are processed by the brain as ‘non-threatening’ stimuli, which can help shift the nervous system away from the stress (or fight-flight) response and towards a calmer state often referred to as ‘rest and digest.’

“Nature, by contrast, provides soft sensory engagement that allows the brain to rest and recover, which can improve mood and reduce mental fatigue.”

The Song of the Forest experience will be available to guests throughout the May bank holidays and from the end of June through to the end of August.
