The assessment, designed to measure strength, endurance, and functional performance, is part of the department’s broader effort to ensure its specialized officers are physically prepared for the demands of high-risk response situations. SWAT personnel are required to meet rigorous standards that reflect the unpredictable and physically taxing nature of their work.

SWAT Commander Lt. Corey Kasun emphasized the importance of the evaluation, stating, “I ask a great deal of all the members of our SWAT team. Maintaining a high operational level of physical fitness is one area that we have committed to holding each other accountable to. I am extremely proud of our SWAT team and the personal commitment and dedication that it requires to be successful. Our community and visitors deserve a high level of professionalism.  Being fit; physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually is all part of it.  We are grateful to Captain CrossFit, who welcomed us to their incredible facility, allowing us to test our physical resolve.”

The testing environment at Captain CrossFit provided a structured and challenging setting for officers to complete the evaluation. The Prescott Police Department highlighted the value of local partnerships that support training and readiness initiatives in a recent Facebook post about the fitness test.

By prioritizing ongoing fitness assessments, the SWAT team continues to uphold professional standards that protect both officers and the community they serve.
