Arete Health, a clinician-led outpatient physical therapy platform headquartered in Coral Gables, Florida, has announced the acquisitions of Virginia Rehabilitation & Wellness, with locations in Chantilly and Fairfax, Virginia, and Summerville Physical Therapy & Balance for Adults in South Carolina, expanding the organization’s footprint to 16 outpatient rehabilitation clinics across the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast.
The acquisition of Virginia Rehabilitation & Wellness strengthens Arete Health’s growing Mid-Atlantic presence while the addition of Summerville Physical Therapy & Balance for Adults marks continued expansion into the Southeast. Since launching in 2025, Arete Health has grown rapidly through acquisitions of Carolina Rehabilitation in North Carolina, which started with four clinics, and ProFlex Physical Therapy, which added seven clinics across Maryland and Virginia, plus two de novo clinics opened under the company’s Operating Partner model.
Arete Health’s Operating Partner model is designed to empower local clinical leaders through operational support, leadership development, and long-term growth opportunities while maintaining strong community-based clinical identities and patient-centered care delivery. The model enables entrepreneurial rehabilitation professionals to open or join clinics with the backing of Arete’s organizational infrastructure and capital without sacrificing the local identity and clinical culture that distinguish high-quality outpatient rehabilitation from larger institutional providers. The company plans to continue opening de novo clinics throughout 2026 by partnering with rehabilitation professionals in underserved and growing communities.
CEO Eric DeYoung described the company’s mission as centered on creating access to care while supporting clinicians in operating at the top of their licensure, characterizing Arete as building an organization focused on long-term clinical excellence, strong community relationships, operational discipline, and meaningful partnership with the professionals leading patient care every day. The rapid expansion from zero to 16 clinics across four states in roughly one year reflects both the fragmented nature of the outpatient rehabilitation market and Arete’s ability to execute acquisitions and integrate new clinics without disrupting operations or clinical culture.
Outpatient physical therapy remains a highly fragmented market with significant consolidation opportunity as independent clinic owners seek liquidity and operational support without the cultural trade-offs associated with selling to large hospital systems or national chains. Arete Health’s Operating Partner model positions it as a preferred acquirer for independent operators seeking a mission-aligned buyer.
