TUSCOLA, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – A teen from Tuscola got a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, joining Donald Trump in the Oval Office as he announced the return of the Presidential Fitness Test Awards.

The Presidential Physical Fitness Award is back as Trump revives annual fitness test in US schools

The fitness test, reinstated in July 2025, was a staple in public schools for decades before being phased out under Barack Obama in favor of a different program. The test includes events such as a one-mile run and sit-ups, and is being made mandatory for students at 161 schools on U.S. military installations.

Previously, awards were given to students who scored above the 85th percentile, though updated criteria have not yet been released.

Nate Wright stood beside the president during the announcement, first wearing his Jim Ned T-shirt before changing into a fitness program shirt.

Trump also proclaimed May 2026 as National Physical Fitness and Sports Month.
