Cancer Wellness Center sets 30th Annual Walk for Saturday, expands nutrition services

The Cancer Wellness Center of NEPA will host its 30th Annual Walk fundraiser on Saturday, May 9, to support free programs and services for local cancer clients and their caregivers across Northeast Pennsylvania.

The center serves nearly twice as many clients as it did a few years ago, increasing the need for community support to ensure all services remain free and accessible.

Registration is at 8:30 a.m., and the walk starts at 9:30 a.m. at The Cancer Wellness Center, 190 Welles St., Forty Fort.

Attendees can purchase and decorate Honor Ribbons, which are displayed along the route in tribute to loved ones affected by cancer. There will also be raffles, food trucks, live music, fitness challenges, and other activities.

As part of this milestone year, the center will also announce an expansion of its nutritional programming through a first-time partnership with the Food Dignity Movement. This initiative focuses on connecting individuals with locally sourced and health-supportive food.

The expansion will include a full meal plan program designed to support cancer patients’ individual needs, a series of farm stands featuring dozens of local farms, and an expanded series of cooking classes.

To introduce the program, the walk will feature one of The Food Dignity Movement’s nutritional farmer stands open to all walk attendees.
