ROCK ISLAND, Ill. (KWQC) – Augustana College’s kinesiology students had a chance to show off what they’ve learned this year by measuring body composition and endurance capabilities for the community.
Augustana held it’s annual Celebration of Learning day Wednesday, which showcases student, staff and faculty work. The kinesiology students held a fitness clinic where they did cardio and body composition tests.
Elizabeth Leal-Alfaro, a kinesiology professor at Augustana, said she was proud of how Augustana’s kinesiology program sets its students up for success.
“We’ve set up our students and prepared them to be able to run the whole thing on their own, which is the goal,” Leal-Alfaro said.
The students led participants in two tests, which helped them measure their fitness capabilities and growth.
The BodPod test measures body composition, specifically body fat percentage, so people can track their fitness progress.
The VO2 Max Test measures endurance by increasing the speed of a treadmill or stationary bike. This test gives people information and data about their cardiovascular endurance.
“I think that understanding the different individual levels of fitness between athletes and age… and knowing how it can affect performance is very important,” AJ Banks, a junior kinesiology student at Augustana said.
