The word trendsetter is often overused, but when it comes to Hailey Bieber, the Rhode beauty founder truly embodies the term. Bieber gets a new manicure, and it’s suddenly the salon’s top-requested look; or she wears a divisive trend like capri pants, and the style goes from polarizing to popular. Well, Bieber just gave her latest take on a trend—or rather rebuked one.
In a recent interview with Time, in which Bieber graced the cover of the Time 100 Most Influential Companies issue, the Rhode founder shared her wellness takes on topics like matcha lattes and Pilates.
“I think it’s a little over,” Bieber says about Pilates, before she asks the interviewer if that was crazy for her to say. “I love Pilates, I really do. But I think it’s become a little bit of a fad, and it’s really hard to find really good teachers that care about form.”
Pilates has been in the spotlight over the last few years as workout trends have moved away from intense exercises like running or weightlifting and toward the gentle strengthening Pilates offers. The workout has been further popularized by celebrities like Kendall Jenner, Dua Lipa, and especially Bieber. Terms like “Pilates princess” have been coined to denote not just the workout, but the culture of Pilates—from the apparel worn in class to the clientele.
It’s been documented that Bieber frequents L.A. hotspot Forma Pilates for classes, alongside Jenner. While it’s unknown if Bieber quit Pilates altogether, it’s likely she will continue her other rotation of workouts—from personal training with celebrity trainer Kristy Godson to workouts at the celebrity-clad Alo Wellness Club gym in L.A. Bieber often posts her workouts on Instagram and has been open about her regimen after having her son Jack Blues in August 2024.
Even if Bieber pivots from Pilates to another workout, there’s one thing we can count on from the Rhode founder—to serve us major workout outfit inspiration on her Instagram.
