TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – Paul Mitchell the School Toledo will host “Cancer Survivor Beauty and Support Day” on June 2, offering complimentary haircuts and wash-and-styles to cancer patients and survivors by appointment.
The annual event is part of a nationwide effort involving salons and schools across the country to recognize and support people living with and beyond cancer.
Founded in 2003 in Illinois, organizers say the event has grown to include participants in all 50 states, as well as Canada and Mexico.
This year marks the 23rd anniversary of Cancer Survivor Beauty and Support Day. A resolution, H. Res. 466, is currently moving through the U.S. House of Representatives expressing support for designating the first Tuesday in June as a permanent “National Cancer Survivor Beauty and Support Day,” according to the release.
Organizers say the day is volunteer-based, with no money raised and no solicitations, and that survivors schedule their own appointments for services.
To schedule an appointment in Toledo, call 419-885-5191. Services vary by location and are available by appointment only.
