Fuel the Burg opens as nutritional eatery

Fuel the Burg is officially open for business on Eagle Lake Drive, bringing a new nutrition-focused option to the Lawrenceburg community. The Anderson County Chamber of Commerce hosted a ribbon cutting and grand opening on Saturday, April 25, drawing supporters to celebrate the new venture.

Owned by Austin and Taylor Powell, Fuel the Burg is a nutrition club with Herbalife offering a variety of drinks and snacks, including loaded teas, beauty teas, protein teas, protein shakes, smoothie bowls, and even protein waffles and donuts.

The shop’s loaded and beauty teas are caffeinated, with beauty teas infused with vitamins, minerals, biotin, and collagen to support hair, skin, and nail health. Their “pretty protein teas” combine those same benefits with 17 grams of protein.

Taylor Powell said the added protein can help with hunger control while also supporting mental clarity and focus.

“The cool thing about our protein shakes is we can turn any of our shakes into waffles and donuts—which is really cool,” she said.

The idea for Fuel the Burg began when the Powell family was living in a camper in Shelby County while building their home here in Lawrenceburg.

“We went to a place called Protein Hub…and I became hooked,” Taylor said. “I was wanting to go almost every day.”

What began as frequent visits turned into a deeper interest. Taylor became a VIP member and began purchasing the products to make the drinks at home.

“I’d always had in the back of my mind how fun it would be to own my own little coffee shop or business like that,” she said. “And I was like, ‘This would be perfect.’”

The opportunity came when a familiar location became available. The Powells had often visited Big Jack’s Coffeehouse and Cafe, which previously operated in the Eagle Lake Drive space. When the business relocated, they saw their chance.

“Coincidentally enough, they had decided to go down to the one location, so that space was coming vacant soon,” said Taylor. “It was like a sign, so we took the leap, and here we are now.”

Now settled in their newly built home in Lawrenceburg, the couple is focused on building a welcoming, family-friendly space.

If you’re visiting for the first time, Taylor recommends trying one of the pretty protein teas. She added that smoothie bowls have also quickly become a customer favorite.

Fuel the Burg plans to offer seasonal specials but will keep all menu options available year-round through customization.

“If someone comes in and they’re obsessed with a drink from our winter menu, you can get that same drink in July,” she said. “If you find what you like, you can stick with that.”

Fuel the Burg is open Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

“We are very family-oriented,” Taylor said. “I have two young kids, my husband is military, and I’m a nurse. We stay very busy, but we just want it to be a comfortable spot for the community to come and hang out.”
