Community members looking to make a difference have several exciting opportunities to get involved this summer and fall. From supporting critical administrative work at local nonprofits to helping individuals strengthen their mental wellness and assisting families at a major community event, volunteers continue to play a vital role in building a stronger Lancaster County.
According to national research, volunteering has been linked to stronger community resilience, with areas that have higher volunteer participation often recovering more quickly during times of crisis. Volunteers play a key role in strengthening local support systems, expanding access to services and helping communities respond more effectively to emerging needs.
Water Street Mission
One organization currently seeking support is Water Street Mission, which is recruiting donation record maintenance volunteers. This behind-the-scenes role is ideal for individuals who enjoy organization, data entry and administrative tasks. Volunteers will assist with entering and updating donor records, reviewing information for accuracy, organizing documentation and supporting general office operations.
While the position may not place volunteers directly in front-line service, its impact is significant. Accurate donor records help ensure organizations can effectively steward resources and continue providing essential programs and services throughout the community. Training and ongoing support are provided, making this an excellent opportunity for students, retirees, professionals or anyone looking to contribute their skills in a meaningful way.

Sun Point Foundation
Another opportunity is available through the Sun Point Foundation, which is seeking volunteers to serve as wellness support specialists. This unique role focuses on helping clients apply therapeutic goals and coping strategies to everyday life. Working under the guidance of licensed clinicians, volunteers provide encouragement, skill-building support, resource navigation and accountability to individuals on their wellness journey.
The position offers valuable experience for those interested in psychology, social work, counseling, human services or related fields. Volunteers help bridge the gap between clinical care and daily living, empowering individuals to build healthy routines, strengthen coping skills and access community resources.
The Foundation is seeking individuals who can commit to a regular schedule and are interested in making a lasting impact on the lives of others.

Back to School Event
In addition to these ongoing opportunities, volunteers are also needed before, during and after the 15th annual Back to School Event, which this year is Sunday, Aug. 9, at Penn Medicine Park.
This beloved community initiative helps local students and families prepare for the upcoming school year by providing essential school supplies and resources.
Volunteers will assist with registration, event logistics, distribution activities and family support throughout the event. Every volunteer contributes to creating a welcoming experience and ensuring students begin the school year equipped for success.
Research consistently shows that students who have access to the supplies they need are more likely to feel confident, prepared and engaged in the classroom. Events like this help remove barriers and set students up for a strong start to the academic year.
