Families, cyclists, and community members are invited to enjoy an afternoon of fun, fitness, and treats during the Melon City Bike Club’s annual Family Bike Ride on Sunday, June 28.
The ride begins at 1 p.m. at the Charles & Jean Harper Pavilion on Houser Street. Riders of all ages will travel together along a family‑friendly route to the Friends of the Muscatine Art Center’s Ice Cream Social on Mulberry Avenue — where every participant will be treated to free ice cream courtesy of the friends group.

After the ice‑cream stop, the Family Bike Ride will continue back to the Harper Pavilion, completing a relaxed, community‑oriented loop perfect for riders of all experience levels.
This event is a great opportunity to enjoy Muscatine’s trails, connect with neighbors, and support two long‑standing community organizations.

Ice cream social
Families also are invited to the Friends of the Muscatine Art Center’s Annual Ice Cream Social from 1-4 p.m. Sunday, June 28. This free community event features art, music, hands‑on activities, and sweet treats for all ages.
Visitors can watch artist Joe Barnard paint outdoors and meet exhibiting artists James Walker Henry (surrealist works) and Rich Ankeney (jazz‑inspired abstracts). Guests may also explore two exhibitions: Sister Cities 40th Anniversary, highlighting decades of international exchange, and Muscatine and the Civil War, featuring a projection of soldier Daniel J. Parvin reading from his wartime letters.
Live music will be performed throughout the afternoon:
1 p.m. – Muscatine Civic Chorale
1:45 p.m. – Burlington Street Bluegrass Band
3:15 p.m. – Chris Foss & the Third Street Jammers.
Children can enjoy courtyard games, big blue blocks from the Musser Public Library, art projects, Muscatine County Arts Council activities, and Steve’s Petting Zoo, joining the event for the first time. Kids can earn a prize by completing activities.
The Ice Cream Social has been a Muscatine tradition since 1979. Proceeds from the sale of ice cream, pie, brownies, cookies, and other treats support Friends‑funded educational programs and staff positions.
Bike riders will receive a token for free ice cream when they stop at the Art Center.
