It’s Food Wars time! Food Wars is the segment where we put two foods or drinks head to head, as they battle it out to see which one belongs in your fridge, and which one belongs in the garbage.

Today we’re comparing two different types of liquids from the water category: Vitamin Water vs water.

Now, your initial reaction may be, more vitamins means a more nutritious version of water, right? Well, that sounds right, but we need to look deeper than that.

Marketing can be deceptive. Shocker, I know.

Glorified headlines and pretty packaging can be very deceiving to an uninformed shopper. Not anymore.

This is what this food wars segment is all about. It’s about peeling back the covers and finding out the truth about the foods and drinks you’re putting into your body.

It’s Vitamin Water vs Water! Lets start off with Vitamin Water.

From the sounds of it, Vitamin Water seems like it should be the real winner, but first, lets look at the nutrition information and ingredients list. Get ready to be surprised.

Is Vitamin Water healthy?
One way to find this out is to look at the ingredients and nutrition label.

Vitamin Water nutrition information (per serving):
Calories: 120
Protein: 0g
Carbohydrates: 31g
Fat: 0g

In this example, the Vitamin Water contains 120 calories and 31 grams of sugar, in just one serving!

I don’t know about you, but one of the main reasons I drink water is to cleanse my body. Pumping 34 grams of sugar, which is the same amount as soda, does not help with this.

Now, look at the Vitamin Water ingredients.

Vitamin Water ingredients:
– Reverse osmosis water (that’s a great thing)
– Crystalline fructose (i.e. sugar)
– Cane sugar
– …and a bunch of other words we can’t even pronounce!

What about the vitamins?
Yes, the water contains vitamins, but these are a synthetic version of vitamins. This means some of these synthetic vitamins may be absorbed and used by the body, but some will also be rejected by the body and excreted through your urine.

If you’re looking to add more vitamins into your diet, focus on eating more vegetables and fruits. These foods contain highly absorbable vitamins that the body can thrive on.

Now lets check out the nutrition information and ingredients of bottled water.

Bottled Water nutrition information (per serving):
– Calories: 0
– Protein: 0g
– Carbohydrates: 0g
– Fat: 0g

Bottled Water ingredients:
– Water

Yes, exactly what you’d expect to find in a water bottle. One ingredient: pure water.

Vitamin Water vs Water: The Winner is…
Stick with bottled water. Vitamin Water is not worth it as it’s essentially sugar water with added in synthetic vitamins.

Skip the sugar water, cleanse your body with pure water, and get your vitamins from real whole foods, like vegetables and fruit.

Foods and drinks with one ingredient!
When you stick to one ingredient foods and drinks, you’ll begin to notice a big difference in your body and your health.

The bottle of water is going back in the fridge, and the Vitamin Water is going in the garbage.
