What is the importance of something like maybe vitamin D star over our overall health and immune function?
Yeah, so vitamin D definitely has a lot of benefit and you know, one of the reasons why it gets so much attention and so much research is because it’s one of those vitamins that has been shown to have some really profound effects on balancing the immune system.
Through a type of white blood cell called T regulatory cells. So, you know, there’s always plenty of research on vitamin D especially lately because it’s one of the few nutrients that have been shown to have that profound effect on the immune system and helping to balance the immune system being especially helpful in a lot of autoimmune conditions. So that’s a big factor
Vitamin D, it also helps to maintain the intestinal barrier, so the intestinal lining having an intestinal lining that is compromised that can be a gateway of inflammation for a lot of people and so vitamin D is one of the really one of the most important vitamins that help to maintain that barrier between essentially the outside world in our bloodstream.
So is it enough to get I mean, what’s the best way to get vitamin D? Is it enough to just go outside? Are supplements important. How do you see that?
So that’s gonna be depending on different factors because you know part of that is going to depend on where you live in the world. You know, how how strong the sun is where you are, you know, the season all of those different things are going to are going to play a factor the amount of melanin in your skin, those are all going to be factors in how much vitamin D you’ll be able to make from sun exposure. So supplementation, definitely has a role especially during the winter months. We’re I’m in Chicago. So we’re kind of still in Winter. So we need Vitamin D, we need supplement in Chicago.
