Now more than ever Vit D is being touted all over the media, and for good reason. We all know that Vit D is now considered more of a hormone than a vitamin because our body is supposed to produce it from sunlight, and this fat soluble vitamin is also responsible for regulating over 200 genes in our DNA on a daily basis! Did you know Vit D is also important for regulating and maintaining tight junctions in the GUT? Vit D in addition to helping bone mineral density, also aids in our immune system.
New research is also showing some with genetic polymorphisms (VDR) that are affecting Vit D production, and these individuals will most likely benefit from increased supplementation.
Now the discussion for the most optimal blood levels is still up for debate, but more experts agree getting levels to the 50ng/ml-70ng/ml is essential for optimal health. This is much more than the typical RDA of 30ng/ml.
Now is not the time to see if you are deficient in Vit D!
