Newspapers need to desist from sensational headlines; columnists ought to restrict themselves to facts, mortality in India is indeed lower than other countries; probably because of some form of hidden and unknown immunity.
The undeniable fact is that few die from Covid-19 in India as compared to other nations. T_cells that have earlier interacted with common cold corona viruses, have been found to cross react with SARS-CoV-2.
Either one supports extended lockdown or welcomes the easing of lockdown. One cannot demand both in the same breath.
Surgery in patients with Covid-19 carries a significantly greater risk of mortality ; hence it is imperative that Covid-19 status is known both to patient and surgeon to act appropriately.
The Delhi government must ensure that patients undergoing surgery are tested for SARS-CoV-2 by RT-PCR , both before and after surgery.
