There is some evidence that certain vitamins
and minerals can help the immune system grow strong against the disease. These will not prevent the disease but will help us fight the disease. Vitamin C, D and zinc have a positive effect on the immune system .Good sources of Vitamin C are Guavas, oranges, Papaya and Mangoes. Among these Guavas have the highest content eating one large Guava around 180 grams can give you almost 500 mg of vitaminC which is equal to a tablet of Vitamin C.
Another Vitamin that helps the immune system is Vitamin D. The body can make Vitamin D if it is exposed to sunlight. Staying in the sun for about 15 minutes a day especially around 11 am or no one can give us enough Vitamin D for a day. Eggs are also a good source of vitamin D.
Zinc is another essential mineral, good sources of zinc include pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, and peanuts other source not as good as the ones mentioned include, cheese, chickpeas and beans. In Ayurveda it is recommended that we have a balanced diet which includes fruits and vegetables. Spices like Haldi (Turmeric), Jeera (Cumin), Dhaniya (Coriander) and Lahsun (Garlic) are recommended in cooking.
Ministry of Ayush suggest – “Drink herbal tea / decoction (Kadha) made from Tulsi (Basil), Dalchini (Cinnamon),
Kalimirch (Black pepper), Shunthi (Dry Ginger) and Munakka (Raisin) – once or twice a day. Add jaggery (natural
sugar) and / or fresh lemon juice to your taste, if needed.”
