In this lesson I take a look at a new promising medication being trialed in the US right now to potentially treat COVID-19. This medication is called Tocilizumab, which is an immunosuppressant interleukin-6 receptors inhibitor. I talk a little bit about this drug and its past, including past FDA approvals for other diseases, before going in to how exactly it is that this drug works.
From there I talk about how these mechanisms of action might be beneficial in COVID-19. I reference a couple studies, one small, early on study from China, as well as a more recent much larger study from Italy, that one which showed a significant reduction in mortality.
I finally finish out covering the dosing as well as the common side effects to be seen with this medication.
