Vitamin A supplementation (VAS) is an important intervention and it is critical to reducing preventable childhood deaths under the age of 5. In countries, like Pakistan, where vitamin A deficiency (VAD) is a major public health problem, VAS of under 5 children enhances immunity and helps protect against blindness and death. VAS to children every six months, from 6 months of age until the child is 5 years old is a high-impact preventive public health strategy to protect children from the morbidity and mortality caused by childhood illnesses such as diarrhea, malaria and measles.
