What Causes Vitamin D Deficiency @
Hey there, it’s Energy Fit Girl and I wanted to talk to you today about the importance of Vitamin D.
Have YOU Read the Vitamin D Solution?
I started reading it because a couple years ago, my energy was a little low. My doctor suggested that I get a Vitamin D test. I’m so glad I did because I found out that my levels were very low. I started taking 4000 IUs of Vitamin D per day, a year later my number doubled AND my energy increased!
Do you know what your Vitamin D levels should be?
According to the Vitamin D solution, Ideally between 30-100 Nano-grams per milliliter with the sweet spot landing around 60-80.
Did you know that upwards of two-thirds of the American population is Vitamin D deficient?
According to the book, this is directly impacting health to the extent that ailments like heart disease, cancer, arthritis and are likely a direct result of Vitamin D deficiency.
Do you know the difference between UVA and UVB?
When using sunscreen in the past, it used to only protect you from UVB rays, which allowed you to stay in the sun for hours and kept you from burning.
However, sunscreen did NOT protect you from UVA rays, which are the rays that cause skin damage and WRINKLES. Don’t I know it?
If you are looking to stay in the sun for hours at a time, make sure you find a sunscreen with UVA AND UVB Protection. Remember A is for Aging, B is for Burning
Do you know your skin type? There are skin types ranging from type 1 where you always burn, to type 6 where you never burn. You can find a helpful chart in the book.
Depending on where you live, the chart reveals how long you should stay in the sun each day in order to obtain the right amount of Vitamin D.
It also shows at what time of day, you should go out in the sun. If you live where I live, in a Northern Latitude, there’s a good chance you are Vitamin D Deficient which means you have low levels of vitamin D.
One surprising fact is that DARKER skinned people actually have more trouble absorbing Vitamin D than lighter skinned individuals.
Did you know that Vitamin D helps calcium absorb into the bloodstream and bones? SO, if you are deficient in Vitamin D, there is a chance you are getting calcium absorption.
If YOUR Vitamin D levels have not been tested, you may want to check with your doctor to see if it can be included along with your normal yearly blood panel. In some cases, it might be covered on your insurance. Check with your insurance provider.
Again, I highly recommend the book, the Vitamin D Solution. It’s a good read and full of helpful information.
