here are the five reasons why vitamin D is
important for us number one it’s great for bone health and strength number two it’s great
for memory and cognition especially for us women number three it’s great for thyroid
health and support number four it’s great for reducing inflammation and number five it’s
great for our immune system uh so often times I see many clients and patients uh come in already
taking vitamin D but not knowing their levels so uh the reason why it’s important to know your
levels is because you can have too much vitamin D so when we have too much vitamin D we run the
risk of that excess calcium now being absorbed into organs such as the kidney and we have the
run the risk of developing kidney stones and then in the arteries and then we have run the
risk of uh developing cardiovascular issues if that occurs so even though it’s rare you want to
you’re on the side of safety so that’s why it’s important to get your vitamin D levels checked
especially if you’re supplementing because um because of that um those reasons so how is it
checked you check your vitamin D it’s checked in the serum it’s checked by using a marker called 25
or 25 hydroxy vitamin D optimal levels are between 60 and 80 so even though the labs range is 30 to
100 uh that’s an older reference range so optimal range is 60 to 80 and so if you’re supplementing
with vitamin D it’s best to get your levels checked every 3 to four months i like to have my
patients and clients running between 60 and 80 for uh the great benefits I mentioned earlier which
are memory and mood bone health thyroid health reducing inflammation and for our immune system so
I like to have my clients remember their vitamin D levels and um also to supplement but not without
testing i refer to vitamin D as the great neuro antioxidant because it’s so important for memory
and mood especially for women in perimenopause and menopause so um get your vitamin D levels
checked for those reasons I mentioned um both the good and the not so good or the bad um so
it’s very important to know your vitamin D levels especially if you’re supplementing uh if you
