Launched in January 2025, the amp is a new smart fitness machine designed to support full-body strength training from home, similar to compact home gyms such as Tempo and Tonal. It also offers trainer-led workouts like Peloton.
So, how is it different? Amp stands out for launching with extensive AI-powered features, providing automatic resistance adjustments to match your performance and support fitness goals. It also has a very compact footprint and a sleek design.
The amp was designed by a team of entrepreneurs from Apple, Nike, and Meta, working alongside Sports Science PhDs with experience with NBA, NFL, and Olympic athletes.
Currently, the amp is still in pre-order and has been shipping to early customers. This means limited in-depth hands-on reviews are available.
Fortunately, Healthline has some first-hand insight from our reviewer, Nick Trull, who has been testing the amp since July 2025, using it 2-4 times a week.
So, did amp improve your fitness?
Nick felt that amp made exercising more engaging and attainable, not just for himself.

What stood out about amp to you?
Nick has tested other fitness machines, including the Tonal, a market leader. He praises amp’s comparatively small footprint and minimalist design.
“The compact footprint was a big selling point for me, fitting perfectly in our office and workout space without feeling bulky. The sleek, modern aesthetic also makes it an easy addition to any room.”
Nick also noted the gamification of workouts as a distinct feature. “You can choose [the game features], or it appears within certain workouts and exercises, supporting pacing as you move the weight eccentrically and concentrically. It’s similar to a Guitar Hero-style game that gives a score at the end.”

Amp also features a ‘gamified’ experience, so if you need some incentive to exercise, you may find motivation through racking up points and hitting high scores. Personalized challenges and achievements are given to encourage progress.
The app has a continually growing library of workouts and classes from 20+ trainers. You can also build your own custom workouts within the app and even remove or replace movements during workouts.
App subscription
Currently, the app is only iPhone compatible. Android users may not be able to use the device fully until an Android-compatible version is available.
The app requires a membership subscription of $23 a month, with purchase of the device including a one-year commitment. As the app is a core part of the device’s functionality, it is important to factor in this additional cost.
One membership supports up to 15 household members, making it a useful option for households, workplaces, or other shared spaces.
The amp device can support over 450 movements.
The amp offers digital resistance ranging from 5 lbs to 100 lbs. The AI can adjust the weight resistance automatically to suit your workouts, or you can manually adjust it using the dial on the device. With a click, the dial can also change modes.
The smart resistance modes include:
Fixed: This maintains a constant weight throughout the workout.Band: This adds resistance as your range of motion goes further from the start position.Eccentric: This mode increases resistance when you return to your starting position.
The device can automatically switch between these modes to suit your workout, or you can manually select a mode and adjust the resistance as needed.
The amp device is a wall-mounted unit with a slim and minimalist design, intended to save space and be visually unobtrusive. Bear in mind you’ll need surrounding floor space to perform exercises with a full and safe range of motion.

The device and shelf measure 6 feet (ft) x 2 feet (ft) x 1 foot (ft) in height, width, and depth. The total weight of the device is approximately 70 pounds (lbs).
It features a shelf that supports your phone and small accessories.
The amp device costs $1,795 upfront, excluding tax. A payment plan is available, with a monthly cost of $75 over 24 months. Payment plans are available, alongside the option to use HSA/FSA funds.
The app subscription costs $23 a month. The amp device comes with a one-year subscription commitment to the amp app.
Customers can take advantage of a 90-day home trial. If the amp doesn’t work for you, you can return it for free.
Currently, the amp is available only for pre-order, with a refundable reservation cost of $99 that contributes to the final total cost of the device.
White glove installation is included with delivery. Delivery is available in 48 U.S. states, excluding Alaska and Hawaii.
You may need to send photos or details about the desired installation site beforehand, so the installers can determine if the location is suitable. Note that installation requires drilling into the wall.
Some customers have discussed on Reddit that the company charges between $300 to $500 for relocation of the device around the home or to a new home. Customers should contact amp directly to clarify this cost before purchase if relocation is a possibility.
