HICKORY, N.C. – The Gardner-Webb track and field team completed a solid team weekend on Saturday afternoon and evening, competing at the Southside Power & Fitness Invitational at Lenoir-Rhyne
Freshman Justus Bradford was in action early Saturday in the women’s high jump. Bradford finished fourth with a mark of 1.48 meters
GWU took four of the top five spots in men’s discus throw. Senior Quentin Peterson won the event with a mark of 54.65 meters, followed by junior Devin Redd in third at 45.57 meters, sophomore Magnum Chestnut in fourth at 45.30 meters, and sophomore Jon Garrett in fifth with a mark of 43.34 meters
In the men’s triple jump, freshman Donovan Richardson carried the flag for Gardner-Webb. Richardson placed third with an impressive mark of 14.71 meters
Continuing an excellent individual weekend, freshman Laura Covarrubias was back on the track for the women’s 100 meter hurdles on Saturday. Covarrubias posted a time of 15.41 seconds to take ninth place. Teammate Isa vanSintemaartensdijk was 11th in the event clocking in at 15.82 seconds
Freshman Skye Jackson was in action for the women’s 100 meter dash. Jackson was scored in fifth with an impressive time of 12.02 seconds. She’d also take part in the women’s 200 meter dash, finishing fourth with a time of 24.61 seconds. Sophomore Hope Smith was seventh in the same event with a time of 24.90 seconds
One of the most impressive team-showings from GWU cme in the women’s 800 meters. Senior Jessica Perriello was the top finishing Runnin’ Bulldog, finishing in second with a time of 2:15.61. She was followed by teammates sophomore Emily Leatherman in fifth at 2:19.63, freshman Maggie Dirks in 10th at 2:25.50, sophomore Claire Bauer in 12th at 2:30.10 and sophomore Brooke Hope in 13th at 2:30.62
The Gardner-Webb women’s 4×100 team recorded a fourth place run. Jackson, Hope Smith, Jada Pittman and Traci Cross combined to record a time of 47.12 seconds, less than two seconds off the top spot
Sophomore Gabrielle Comery added to the good times results for Gardner-Webb in the women’s 400 meter dash. Comery was third in the event, posting a time of 57.87 seconds
