Sparkle Grooming Co. emphasizes skin, coat and preventative care as dogs head into spring shedding and allergy season.

AVON, Ohio — A new dog grooming business in Northeast Ohio is taking a different approach — one that goes beyond helping pets look their best.

Sparkle Grooming Co. recently opened its doors in Avon, offering what owners describe as a wellness-focused grooming experience centered on routine care and early detection of potential health issues.

“Sparkle focuses on routine maintenance and preventative care along with full service grooming,” co-owner Romeo Radulici said. “We believe that giving a dog consistent care enriches their life and their owners’ lives as well.”

Unlike traditional grooming visits that may focus primarily on appearance, each appointment at Sparkle begins with a hands-on wellness check. Groomers examine a dog’s skin, coat, ears, teeth and nails before any bathing or trimming begins.

That care is built into what the company calls its “essentials” — a standard set of services designed to ensure every dog receives consistent, comprehensive treatment.

“When you come to Sparkle, you’re always going to get what we call our essentials. You’re gonna get your bath, your blow dry, your brush, we clean the ears, we do the teeth, we do the nails,” Radulici said.

Radulici says that approach can help identify problems early — something many pet owners may not notice at home.

“Our groomers and our bathers are trained to know what to look for, to see early signs of potential illnesses or bacterial growth,” he said. “And so we address those right away.”

That kind of attention is especially important this time of year.

As temperatures warm up, dogs spend more time outdoors — increasing exposure to allergens, dirt and bacteria. At the same time, many breeds begin shedding their winter coats.

“I think a lot of dogs right now that have thicker coats or double coats are shedding quite a bit,” Radulici said. “Getting rid of that old hair is really, really important.”

To encourage that kind of routine care, Sparkle also offers a monthly membership model — designed to make regular grooming more accessible and consistent for pet owners.

“You are committing to monthly care for your dog,” Radulici said. “Your dog’s gonna appreciate that.”

Still, Radulici emphasizes that grooming is not a substitute for veterinary care.

Instead, he says, it can serve as an added layer of support — helping catch issues early and guiding owners when it’s time to seek medical attention.

“Sometimes people miss things,” he said. “A second set of eyes is critical.”

For pet owners, the takeaway is simple: routine grooming isn’t just cosmetic — it can play an important role in a dog’s overall health.
