RESIDENTS across the district are being encouraged to take their first steps towards improved health and wellbeing as a new ‘Couch to 5K’ programme prepares to get underway later this month.
Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, in partnership with the Public Health Agency (PHA), has announced the launch of the free initiative as part of its wider Healthy Towns programme.
Fitness scheme
The six-week running programme began on Saturday (April 18) at the Coa GAA Grounds, with sessions starting at 8am.
The programme is designed to gradually build participants’ fitness and confidence, helping them progress towards completing a 5-kilometre run in a supportive and structured environment.
The initiative forms part of the Council’s ongoing commitment to improving public health through accessible, community-based physical activity programmes.
Continued support
Across the district, the Council delivers a range of initiatives encouraging people of all ages and abilities to become more active, from organised exercise sessions to outdoor recreation schemes.
Delivered in partnership with the PHA, the Healthy Towns programme focuses on increasing participation in sport and physical activity, particularly among those who may face barriers.
It also aims to promote both physical and mental wellbeing while supporting inclusive opportunities within local communities.
