CLAYTON — The Northmont Board of Education met at Northmont High School on April 13, beginning the evening with a special performance by the Elementary Choir, led by Dr. CJ Roden.

Students delighted the audience with a selection of songs described as “earworms,” showcasing their enthusiasm and talent.

During the meeting, Human Resources Director Amy Sipes presented the fourth strategy of the district’s Strategic Plan, focused on staff wellness. She emphasized the connection between personal and professional growth, noting, “When people are developed professionally, it helps them personally, and when they are developed personally, it helps them professionally.” The presentation highlighted efforts to improve staff retention through regular check-ins with new employees, a recently revamped professional development program that has been well received, and expanded health screening opportunities for staff.

Superintendent Tony Thomas shared several district updates, including ongoing state testing, a recent Thunderwatch presentation, and upcoming transportation training in partnership with local law enforcement. He also noted upcoming events such as Meet the Parent/Principal Night, a recent Superintendent Advisory session with sixth-grade students, and the district’s musical production of Anastasia.

The Board also recognized the return of Safety Town at Kleptz Early Learning Center. Held daily from 1:15–3:20 p.m., the program teaches kindergarten students essential safety skills, including how to call 911, bike safety, and traffic awareness. The program is supported by Englewood School Resource Officer Hacker, community volunteers, and grant funding secured through the efforts of Mrs. Rolfes.

Finally, the district announced that Jenn Zumwalt has been nominated to represent Northmont in the Ohio Teacher of the Year program through the State Board of Education. The Board extended its congratulations and best wishes as she moves forward in the process.

The next meeting of the Northmont Board of Education will be Monday, April 27 at 6 p.m. at Northmont High School.
