'Eat, hydrate, feel great': Free nutrition workshop series throughout May at UOG

The SNAP-Ed Program under the University of Guam Land Grant Extension Service invites community members who are at least 18 years old to participate in a free nutrition education workshop series, “Eat, Hydrate, and Feel Great.”

This four-class series is designed to help adults build practical skills for healthier everyday living through small, achievable changes in grocery shopping, meal planning, and daily routines, UOG said in a media release.

Each class will feature a light and fresh summer-themed recipe.

Community members may register for one of two class schedules:

10 to 11 a.m. on Wednesdays, May 6 to 273:30 to 4:30 p.m. on Mondays, May 4 to June 1

All sessions will be held in the Agriculture and Life Sciences Building, Room 125, at UOG.

Under the leadership of UOG Land Grant’s registered dietitian nutritionist and SNAP-Ed coordinator, Lenora Matanane, SNAP-Ed educators Dianne Sardon, Katrina Nguyen, Niza Mian, and Ella Macatugal will deliver interactive lessons covering:

Creating a weekly meal plan and organized grocery listShopping smart on budgetBuilding balanced mealsIncreasing consumption of whole grainsUnderstanding food processingReading Nutrition Facts labels and identifying added sugarsSetting SMART goals for long-term successIncorporating physical activity, sleep, and food safety into daily routines.

Participants who attend at least three of the four workshops will receive free wellness items to support their healthy habits.

This workshop series is part of UOG Land Grant’s and the SNAP-Ed Program’s ongoing commitment to empowering Guam’s communities with practical, culturally relevant tools for healthier lifestyles.
