From classically-trained musician to pop star, presenter, swimwear designer, campaigner and ambassador for the UK’s leading pregnancy charity Tommy’s, Myleene Klass has spent decades in the public eye. Today, she ensures she prioritises her health and fitness – but when she was younger, with a hectic schedule and topping the charts in her band Hear’Say, she had a ‘chaotic eating routine’.
Now 48 and a mother of three, the broadcaster has turned her nutrition around, eating nourishing meals and staying fit – and relying on a two-step plan for her health.
Step one: Eat well – but don’t diet
Myleene previously told Women’s Health: ‘I used to do that whole thing of “I’m not going to go near chocolate” and all that happens is that three days later it’s all I’m craving.’
Today, she said, she doesn’t skip meals and ensures dishes are a balanced mix of slow-release carbohydrates and plenty of protein. ‘I’m not naturally slim,’ she explained. ‘I’m 5ft 5in and I’m not a model.’ But, she adds, she’s learned to make the best of what she’s got, focussing on simple, sustainable habits she can stick to long-term.
Step two: Keep moving
When it comes to exercise, Myleene includes a mix of strength training, cardio – and stays active day-to-day, playing with her children.
In 2018 Myleene released her own 12-week home workout routine ‘MyBody by Myleene‘ which prioritises strength over extreme weight loss, featuring a mix of boxing, Pilates-based core work, and functional resistance training.
And today, she refuses to let the word ‘diet’ into her family home. ‘From a very young age, my children called Diet Coke’s DCs,’ she told Grazia. ‘I do not want to hear people use the word diet – and I’m known for it! You do not sit at my kitchen table and take yourself down. You can cry, you can talk about your relationship falling apart, you can open up about the difficult times you’re having, but you do not take chunks out of yourself because of your genetic makeup.’
