Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard 100% Whey Protein sizes change

Optimum Nutrition Downsizes Gold Standard In Europe

Optimum Nutrition has done something quite interesting in the European market that we have to assume will eventually make its way here to the U.S., as well as the many other major areas where the legacy brand is available. The news revolves around its legendary protein powder, Gold Standard 100% Whey Protein, specifically its sizes, which have undergone some small but noteworthy changes for what were previously the 2lb and 5lb tubs.

The traditional 2lb and 5lb tubs of Gold Standard 100% Whey Protein from Optimum Nutrition, in Europe, have been shrunk a bit. The 5lb or 2.25kg in that part of the world has come down to 2.01 to 2.04kg or 4.4lbs, and the 2lb has similarly downsized to 768 to 780g or about 1.7lbs. As far as we can tell, the formula, nutrition, and taste are exactly the same; so it is the usual Gold Standard Whey fans have come to rely on, it is just the size of the tubs that’s changed.

It’s a little hard to tell what the change in value is, if there is any, as Optimum Nutrition doesn’t yet have the 1.7lb and 4.4lb tubs of Gold Standard 100% Whey Protein on its website, even in Europe. That’ll be the best way to know if the cost is around the same, either way, pay attention when you next pick up your protein from the iconic brand in Europe. There are several stores already carrying the varieties, and they’re marked with a “New Pack” label.
