The 10 Wellness Essentials Our Editors Are Loving in May

Skyflow

“Now that it’s finally walking season, I’ve been looking to upgrade my sneakers. I recently tested the Hoka Skyflow (read my full review here) and they’ve already become my new favorite pair! The cushioning with super-critically foamed EVA is so comfy—plush yet responsive, and provides a soft and balanced ride without a clunky or ‘sinking in’ feel. It also has a forefoot rocker designed for smooth transitions—I found that it helps the shoe roll forward nicely with each step, helping me effortlessly maintain a natural, efficient stride when walking. I’ll definitely be lacing these up a lot for my walks, commutes, and outings this spring.” —Hannah Jeon, associate commerce editor

Protein Energy Bites

“It feels like my part-time job is strategizing how to get enough protein each day. It’s so important for my muscles and bones, and since I’m an athlete and live an active lifestyle, it’s a fuel-up necessity for me. That’s why I was thrilled to get a taste of the new Protein Energy Bites by RXBAR—they’re filled with 8g of plant-based protein per two-bite serving, plus 5 g of fiber for satiety and regularity, and there’s no added sugar (a huge win for me!). They have a luscious texture and delicious taste, and they’re made with only a few wholesome ingredients such as peanut butter, egg white, dates, and apple slices. Right now I can’t put down the Strawberry Peanut Butter flavor, but I definitely had my moment with the Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter bites too.” —Alyssa Jung, senior health editor, fitness + nutrition

Blacklight 18-In-1 - Hair Beautifier

“This leave-in styling beautifier has seriously transformed my highlighted hair. I was battling some brassiness and dryness, but now my hair feels ridiculously soft—like ‘I can’t stop touching it’ soft. It looks healthier, smoother, and the frizz has basically disappeared. I keep catching myself playing with it all day (I know, I know…I should stop), but it just feels that good. Safe to say I’m a little obsessed!” —Tina Martinez, food producer

MASK Hydrating Hydrogel Sheet Mask

“With the way the temperature has been so up and down lately, it’s safe to say my dry, sensitive, acne-prone (pick a struggle, I know) skin is having a major freak-out. These sheet masks from Image Skincare have been a lifesaver. They’re a bit of a splurge, but so worth it. With nourishing ingredients like hyaluronic acid and green tea extract, they instantly soothe my irritated skin with gentle hydration. The results are long-lasting, too; my skin always feels particularly glowy and refreshed for the next few days after I use one. My trick is to slap one on my face right after using an exfoliating cleanser so the moisture really soaks in. Plus, they’re just as effective at moisturizing parched skin in the dead of winter as they are at calming redness at the height of summer, so these have a place in my skincare routine year-round.” —Jenn Gonick, assistant editor

Tofu Press

“My family eats a LOT of tofu—a truly delicious and versatile plant-based source of protein. But to make the tofu nice and firm for a stir fry, you have to press out the water, which I have done in the past by swathing the tofu block in paper towels, and balancing a heavy fruit bowl on top—NOT the most efficient method. But I recently discovered the Tofuture. Simply put the tofu in, attach the lid tightly, and put it in the fridge for anywhere from 10 minutes to overnight, and it squeezes every last extra drop of water out of your tofu. This has made meal prep SO much easier, and my tofu doesn’t break apart when I cook it.” —Marisa Cohen, Deputy Editor, Health Newsroom

Low Show V Bralette

“I am not a person who enjoys wearing bras, but as warmer weather appears and thinner shirts move to the front of my wardrobe, I am forced to. This low show V-neck bra from LDMA is the only one I will wear, though. It’s so comfortable, but still keeps everything locked up and covered. The fabric is sweat-wicking, so it never leaves any damp spots on my clothes, and it has adjustable straps, which I love, too.” —Charlotte Lewis Finigan, senior commerce editor

Protein + Prebiotics Chocolate Peanut Butter Protein Bar

“I have eaten a looooootttt of bars—the Prevention offices receive boxloads for us to try. Some have tons of protein, but also synthetic sweeteners and chemically-tasting flavors. Others are made of whole foods—yay!—but are often too sweet for me or don’t have much fiber, also a nutrient I’m trying to eat more of. My current favorite: Perfect bars, specifically their newest, the Perfect Bar Protein + Probiotics. It has 20g of protein and 6g of fiber, literally nothing unrecognizable on the ingredients list. The protein comes from peanuts, milk whey powder, and quinoa, which gives it a crunch. It has 10g of added sugar, which isn’t ideal, but better (for me) than the fake stuff so it’s worth budgeting it in. One bar is so filling I often eat two-thirds and pop the rest in the fridge for the next day (Perfect bars are refrigerated, but you can tote them in your bag for up to a week).” —Stephanie Dolgoff, executive editor

Switch 2

“As someone who loves music, I go to concerts and live shows pretty often—but I’m always scared of how all that loud music is affecting my hearing in the long run. That’s why I always make sure to bring a good set of earplugs with me to concerts—specifically Loop earplugs, which has been my go-to for a while now. I recently upgraded my old pair to the new-and-improved Switch 2, and I’ve been loving them: They’re comfortable to wear with four interchangeable silicone ear tips, and they’re adjustable with three different levels of volume you can switch between (Quiet, Experience, and Engage). I also started using them with the Loop Link, which allows me to secure the earplugs around my neck so I always have them within reach throughout the show—honestly such a game-changer!” —Hannah Jeon, associate commerce editor

Eucalyptus Hand Soap

“Hand soap isn’t something most of us think much about, but this one is truly a standout: The formula, made with plant oils, aloe, and shea butter, feels cushiony and pampering and never leaves hands dry. To top it off, it has the most amazing eucalyptus, rosemary, and citrus scent from essential oils that makes a basic daily task feel like a mini spa moment every time you use it.” —April Franzino, senior beauty & style director

Vanilla Body Oil

“This light vanilla body oil is the perfect barely there scent for days where you want to have a hint of sweetness but not a full-blown fragrance. It nourishes skin instantly and sinks right in—I never feel greasy after applying and can get dressed right after! If you like vanilla but don’t want an overly gourmand scent, this luxe body oil is for you!”—Dori Price, contributing beauty editor
