Marina Summers took a moment to deliver a meaningful reminder during the Miss Universe Philippines 2026 coronation night on Saturday.
During the host’s opening spiel, Marina encouraged the public to be just as discerning in choosing the country’s leaders as they are in judging pageant candidates.
“For the people here at the arena, and for the people watching at home, the stakes are high and everybody is understandably invested in this pageant,” she said.
“Let’s just hope that we have the same standards when we elect our county’s future leaders. So we encourage you to join the conversation,” she added.
When she asked, “Tama, mali?”, the candidates cheered in agreement with the crowd.
In February, Marina came out as a trans woman, revealing that she began transitioning last year.
In 2024, she starred in the second season of “RuPaul’s Drag Race: UK vs. the World” and finished in third place. Marina was the only Asian contestant on the show, where she showcased Filipino culture throughout.
In May 2025, she graced the Cannes Film Festival, making history as the first Filipina drag queen to have walked the prestigious event’s red carpet. —Jade Veronique Yap/JCB, GMA News
