On May 21 at 5:30 PM, join The Wellness Files for a special live broadcast featuring a panel of Lifestyle Medicine experts at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine Greenville.

This event is open to the public and will include a question-and-answer period at the end.

Together, we’ll dig into how everyday choices like food, movement, sleep, stress, and connection can influence long-term health and brain function. We will also talk about what research suggests around conditions impacting families today, including ADHD, autism, obesity, diabetes, and Alzheimer’s.

Hosted by the USC School of Medicine Greenville (SOMG) and moderated by FOX Carolina News’ Kari Beal, this live, joint podcast will cover topics, including:

Professor Jennifer Trilk, PhD, FACSM, DipACLM, is the Director of Lifestyle Medicine Programs at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine Greenville, which comprehensively trains medical students in curricula and research in nutrition, physical activity/exercise, behavior change, student/patient self-care, and resiliency to prevent and treat the nation’s top chronic diseases such as obesity, type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease and various forms of cancer.

In 2024, Professor Trilk presented the rationale for Lifestyle Medicine training in medical school at the Department of Health and Human Services’ Food is Medicine Summit.

Kirsten Porter-StranskyKirsten Porter-Stransky(USC SOMG)

Associate Professor Kirsten Porter-Stransky, PhD, DipACLM, is an experienced medical science educator and scholar in neuroscience. She directs the Brain and Behavior course at SOMG and teaches neuroscience, behavioral science, and lifestyle medicine.

Her research program focuses on medical education, science outreach, and lifestyle medicine, and provides research opportunities for medical trainees.

Dean Phyllis MacGilvrayDean Phyllis MacGilvray(USC SOMG)

Dean Phyllis MacGilvray, MD, FAAFP, DipABLM, serves as the Dean of the University of South Carolina School of Medicine Greenville (SOMG). Additionally, she is a clinical professor in the Department of Family Medicine at SOMG and serves as a Prisma Health Family Medicine physician. 

A compassionate leader in primary care and a medical education expert, Dr. MacGilvray is proud to lead the medical school in its next chapter. Dr. MacGilvray is the first medical school dean in the country to be board-certified in lifestyle medicine, which focuses on the use of evidence-based lifestyle interventions to prevent, treat, and reverse chronic diseases.
