The Black Beauty Club is gearing up for its largest event yet.
The organization, launched in 2020 as a resource for Black talent in the beauty industry, is introducing a multicity, daylong experience called Beauty on the Block.
The event, to be held in New York on June 21 and Chicago on Aug. 8, will be part beauty marketplace and part block party, with brand founders and service providers — including makeup artists, hair braiders and aestheticians — offering goods and services on site.
The event will be presented in partnership with Square and Cashapp.
“Beauty on the Block is an answer to a very clear market gap,” said Tomi Talabi, founder of The Black Beauty Club. “Beauty is growing globally, with Black consumers contributing billions to the category…but Black brands capture a disproportionately smaller share of industry revenue. It’s about, how do we create infrastructure to turn that influence into ownership and durable commercial value.”
In New York, the event will be held in Harlem as a takeover of the Adam Clayton Powell Jr. State Office Building plaza at 125th Street and Seventh Avenue. In Chicago, it will be held in the Fulton Market area.
Participating brands include fragrance brand Moodeaux; Hanahana Beauty; Koba Skincare, SPF line Good Weather Skin, and more.

“Our goal is to create a public, transaction-enabled environment where brands can sell, offer services and just really have fun, because that’s what beauty is,” Talabi said.
Beauty on the Block will be free for attendees, of whom Talabi is expecting more than 2,000 in each city.
“We’re going to be in two very diverse cities. We picked these places on purpose because we want to let people know that just because something is founded by a Black founder, doesn’t mean it’s just for Black people,” she continued. “We hope to make this as fun and exciting as possible so that no matter what your skin color is, you want to come in and experience these brands.”
Since its founding six years ago, The Black Beauty Club has hosted more than 70 events and cultivated a growing community of beauty consumers, founders, executives and creatives.
Beauty on the Block will mark the organization’s most significant event in terms of scale, and will be followed in September by its flagship Black Beauty Talks summit, which will be held at The New York Times’ TheTimesCenter.
