MIRAMICHI – The land surrounding the new Arbec Wellness Centre is another step closer to being developed as part of a three-year, multi-phase hotel project.
At Tuesday’s meeting, council unanimously approved the sale of a parcel of land on Tupsi Drive to Cedar Camp Developments for $100,000, plus tax, to make way for a 98-plus-room Tru by Hilton Hotel with a meeting and conference room.
Cedar Camp, a Grand-Digue firm owned by Ron Lord, is the same company that recently built the waterfront Vista Miramichi apartment complex behind Shoppers Drug Mart on Douglastown Boulevard. The company’s other recent projects include a commercial strip in Shediac that features an A&W fast-food outlet, as well as a nearby apartment building in the same community.
Economic development officer Paul McGraw said the hotel — in the four-star range — will be built as part of the project’s first phase.
“The subsequent phases will include restaurants and mixed-use retail services and buildings, as well as some housing units,” he said.
