Victoria Beckham gets candid about daughter Harper’s acne struggles

Any parent of a teenager will be all too familiar with Gen Z’s struggles with hormonal skin, and their obsession with skincare (which often ends up making the problem worse). If it’s any consolation, even the A-listers are going through it too, with Victoria Beckham opening up about daughter Harper’s struggles with acne, a problem that’s affected Posh for many years too.

In a recent podcast interview, Posh Spice sat down with entrepreneur Emma Grede to talk all things Beckham — including getting candid about her teenager. ‘She came to me two or three years ago and she was really struggling with her skin,’ says Victoria. ‘She used to have beautiful skin, but then, like all young girls, she was enticed by certain beauty brands and she was putting a lot of product on her face that wasn’t suitable for her skin,’ she reveals. As a result, Victoria had to enlist the help of a dermatologist.

Victoria reveals she was able to empathise with Harper’s acne struggles

Teenage acne can feel like a rite of passage — even for the A-list. ‘I went through that journey myself,’ Victoria revealed. ‘I suffered with child acne, teenage acne, adult acne — I mean every acne under the sun, I’ve been there.’

This comes amid months of rumours that Harper is preparing to launch her own skincare line — and it may arrive sooner than we think. ‘She [Harper] said, ‘I really want to create a brand because I know what I want, what I can’t find, and I don’t want other people to have to go through what I have been through’,’ Victoria shares. It seems Harper really is Posh’s mini-me.

It seems Harper is shaping up to be a beauty entrepreneur herself

Given Victoria’s own struggles with acne, it’s perhaps no surprise skincare has become a shared interest between mother and daughter. The podcast also saw Victoria discuss her own coveted beauty line, Victoria Beckham Beauty — which has amassed a cult following in its own right. ‘I’ve learned so much from my personal experiences,’ she says.

‘When Barneys were still around in New York, I remember walking around the beauty department and going up to the counters, asking people who worked for the brands what ingredients were in their formulas,’ she recalls. ‘I realised it was a very grey area — no one really knew what the hell was in anything.’

Victoria wanted her beauty line to be clean

Victoria says creating formulas that were both clean and effective became a top priority. ‘I’ve struggled a lot over my life with bad skin, bad acne, and I wanted to know what was in the formulas,’ she explains. ‘I feel like I know what my customer wants because I am her.’

As for what the future holds, Victoria says she’s ‘barely scratched the surface’. It seems the Beckhams still have plenty more to offer the beauty world.
