The award-winning TTRPG, Break!!, has returned to Kickstarter. Developer Grey Wizard’s new crowdfunding campaign includes a new printing of the retro-inspired tabletop experience alongside a new starter set to bring new players into the game.
The Break!! and Start TTRPG Kickstarter Campaign
According to its campaign page, Break!! is a TTRPG inspired by classic JRPGs (Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana, etc.) and fantasy anime like Nausicaa, Berserk, and Delicious in Dungeon.
The core rulebook is over 470 pages and contains a richly detailed, post-apocalyptic setting. The game is set in Outer World, a fantasy land of derelict mega structures, shambling war machines, and nature warped by magical pollution. It’s also a world where half the world is bathed in light while the other is cast in shadow.
Adventurers in this land will explore the blighted landscape, interact with Outer World’s inhabitants, fight or negotiate with dangerous monsters and enemies, craft wondrous items and social bonds with their teammates, and attempt to rise through the adventuring ranks to become legends.
The initial Kickstarter campaign for Break!! was a standout success. It garnered over 10,000 backers and raised over $580k during its run. The game also won the 2024 Gold Ennie award for Best Family Game thanks to its accessible system and rich original setting. If you missed that initial campaign, this new Kickstarter campaign is a way to have this game on your shelf at a crowdfunding discount.
For those who already own the Core Rulebook, this new Kickstarter campaign includes a new supplement. The Start Companion Book is a 200 page supplement designed to bring new players into playing the game as quickly as possible. The book includes a “tutorial adventure” to help players get used to the core rules, a full prewritten adventure, and a sandbox region for players to explore.
