Toledo native opens The HER Center to support girls through mentorship and wellness

TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – A new space in Toledo is working to give girls a safe place to grow.

The HER Center held its grand opening Saturday, May 16, at 3727 Upton Ave.

The center is designed to support girls through mentorship, emotional wellness, leadership development and life skills, with the goal of giving young girls a positive outlet and helping them feel safe and empowered.

Created by Toledo native Tia’Tiauna Fuller in the same neighborhood where she grew up, organizers say the center is meant to be more than a building, it’s a welcoming environment where girls can feel valued, encouraged and connected to opportunities in their community.

Saturday’s grand opening included tours, music, refreshments, and information about future programming.

“This space will pretty much give that ‘Hey, come in here, we’re here for open arms.’ And we can help you out if you need a job or if you need daycare, all types of things. We’ll help you sign up for things just to be that village for people,” Fuller said.
