Seattle’s Glossier store on 10th Avenue is getting ready to say goodbye.
The beauty brand has announced plans to close nine of its 12 retail locations over the next two and a half years as part of a broader business strategy shift. Once the dust settles, only Glossier’s flagship stores in New York, Los Angeles, and London will remain.
While Glossier hasn’t shared an official closing date for its Seattle location, signs point to an upcoming departure. Hunters Capital, the neighborhood developer and property management company that owns the building, has begun marketing the 6,200-square-foot space for lease.
Founded by Emily Weiss in 2014, Glossier built its following online through a direct-to-consumer model before expanding into physical retail. The Seattle store opened in summer 2021, following a wildly popular Capitol Hill pop-up in 2019 that drew long lines.
The shop was immediately a buzzy destination in the neighborhood thanks to its distinctive pink-trimmed exterior and immersive interior design. Located across from the iconic Elliott Bay Book Company, the space feels part beauty store, part art installation. Moss-covered rocks emerge from the floor, oversized mushrooms dot the interior, and a giant tiered seating area mimics natural landscapes. Futuristic touches, including a hologram butterfly mirror, add to the experience. Shoppers can browse and test some of the brand’s best-known products, including Boy Brow and the Glossier You fragrance.
The space may not stay intact for long. Hunters Capital is suggesting that future tenants could divide the storefront into two roughly 3,200-square-foot suites. The asking rate is $47 per square foot annually, plus triple-net expenses such as taxes, insurance, and maintenance.
For Glossier fans, the products aren’t going away entirely. Customers will still be able to shop online and find the brand at select retailers, including Sephora.
For now, the Seattle store remains open, and no final closing date has been announced yet; we will share updates as they come.
