Wellness, which is understood as a combination of well-being and fitness. Then, what are the wellness indicators of industry workers such as trainers and physical therapists in the fitness and healthcare industries.
Recently, in the test service that converts wellness status into scores and even provides improvement programs, a large number of fitness and healthcare workers were found to be at high risk of wellness. In a recent survey conducted by FitTOB, which launched FMS’ wellness test service “Shimeo” in Korea, about 56% of the 178 people who participated in the free trial event were at high risk for wellness. The survey was conducted on people who participated in the free Shimio experience event at the Seoul International Sports and Leisure Industry Exhibition (SPOEX), a sports and leisure industry fair held at COEX in Gangnam, Seoul, from March 28 to 29.
Despite being in the fitness industry, 158 people, or about 90% of the subjects, were found to be in the category that requires the most priority action on movement health. “A problem with movement health means that there is a high possibility of injury due to restrictions on movement or that there is already pain in movement,” Pitbub said. In addition, it was found that about 40% of the subjects should pay priority to sleep disorders, and about 30% should pay priority to mental health.
Shimio is a test that tests a total of eight areas, including movement health, breathing quality, nutritional awareness, mental health, and sleep health, and converts them into wellness scores. It is a structure that also provides personalized wellness improvement programs based on scores for each field. In Korea, it is available through the fitness center member management program FitTOB.
“People in the fitness industry often overwork from early to late, so stress and sleep problems are serious,” said Cha Min-ki (Korean medicine doctor) of FitTOB, who launched Shimio in Korea. “Movement health is expected to be in a more serious state as it correlates with various lifestyle factors such as sleep and stress.”
Lee Burton, CEO of FMS, which developed Shimio, said, “The results of the wellness survey of Korean fitness industry workers are very shocking and I am very concerned that the wellness status of the general public will be more serious. Now, we will be able to reduce the post-mortem cost of social burden only by systematically managing wellness through hospitals, businesses, and insurance companies as well as fitness centers in Korea.”
