Freeze-dried cat, dog food recalled due to possible low level of essential vitamin

TYLER, Texas (KLTV) – A freeze-dried cat food product, sold in several states including Texas, is being voluntarily recalled after the company reported it may have low levels of an essential vitamin.

Go Raw, LLC issued an expansion of a February recall Monday to include Steve’s Real Food Chicken Recipe Freeze Dried, according to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

The company said the product could have low levels of Thiamine, or vitamin B1, which is essential to both cats and dogs, although cats are susceptible to severe health complications without it.

Signs of a thiamine deficiency include:

As the deficiency worsens, the symptoms could become neurological or even fatal:

mental dullnessvision changeswobbly walkingcircling or fallingseizuresventroflexion of the neck or bending their head toward the floorweaknesslethargydeath

The product was sold in beige 1.25 Lb. zip-locked packages with a maroon stripe. They have a Lot code of C26022, a UPC code of 6-91730-164 02-7 and an expiration date of Jan. 22, 2028.
