3 lakh children in Rajshahi district to be given Vitamin A capsules

RAJSHAHI, June 23, 2026 (BSS)- In nine upazilas of Rajshahi, 303,177 children will be administered Vitamin A capsules. The campaign will be held on June 28 from 8 AM to 4 PM.

 

This information was shared at a press conference held at the Rajshahi Civil Surgeon’s office this noon. Civil Surgeon Dr. S.I.M Rajiul Karim presided over the press conference.

 

At the press conference, it was stated that there are plans to give Vitamin A capsules to a total of 303,117 children in the district. Among them, 33,648 children aged 6 to 11 months will be given blue-colored capsules. Red-colored capsules will be given to 269,469 children aged 12 to 59 months.

 

There are 10 permanent centers. In addition, there are a total of 1,778 temporary centers. A total of 3,076 volunteers will be deployed, with two volunteers at each center.

 

The Civil Surgeon emphasized breastfeeding newborns, including colostrum. To meet a child’s vitamin requirements, he advised feeding from one breast for at least five minutes before switching to the other. 

He also advised mothers to eat Vitamin A-rich foods such as carrots, red spinach, pumpkin, fish, meat, milk, and eggs.

 

Civil Surgeon Dr. S.I.M Rajiul Karim said, “Those who have received the measles vaccine can also take Vitamin A capsules. There are no side effects.”

 

At the meeting, Medical Officer of the Civil Surgeon’s office Dr. Bayezid-Ul Islam presented overall information about the campaign.
