Salem, OR – The Oregon Health Authority is rolling out two new nutrition benefits for eligible Oregon Health Plan members beginning July 1, 2026, aimed at helping people with serious health conditions better access healthy food and avoid preventable emergency care.

The new supports include a fruit and vegetable benefit and a pantry stocking benefit for members with conditions such as diabetes, chronic kidney disease, and cancer. Eligible members could receive up to six months of assistance, either through grocery box deliveries or a prepaid card usable at participating stores.

“These nutrition benefits give providers another important tool to help people stay healthy,” said OHA Director Sejal Hathi. “When people have reliable access to nutritious food, they can better manage their health.”

To qualify, members must have a qualifying health condition, a qualifying life situation such as pregnancy or recent incarceration, and low or very low food security, among other criteria.

The program was approved by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services under Oregon’s 1115 waiver.

OHA says it coordinated with coordinated care organizations across the state and community partners, including Rogue Food Unites, to prepare for the launch.

“Access to food is a fundamental human right,” said Rogue Food Unites Executive Director Amber Ferguson. “We’re excited to expand access to food for community members who are economically insecure and living with underlying health conditions.”

Members can request benefits through their coordinated care organization, by contacting Acentra for open card members, or by calling OHP Client Services.
