A new fitness facility is looking to open on Route 281 in Cortlandville.
Train Hard Fitness, based in Liverpool, is proposing minor renovations at 3548 Route 281. The property previously housed two furniture stores, including Aaron’s Rent to Own.
According to planning documents submitted to the Town of Cortlandville, Train Hard Fitness is a locally owned, full-service private fitness facility dedicated to helping members improve their overall health and wellness.
The proposed facility would offer 24/7 membership access, along with personal training and physical therapy services. Staffing hours would be Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and weekends from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Jason, who spoke on behalf of Train Hard Fitness during the site plan application review, told the planning board the facility would employ between five and six people.
Interior improvements would include a reception area, dedicated fitness area with exercise equipment, physical therapy rooms, a retail area, men’s and women’s locker rooms, two sauna rooms, and storage and electrical rooms.
Jason also told the board he plans to increase the value of the property, which he intends to purchase, through additional improvements. Those would include repaving the parking lot and making minor landscaping improvements.
Overall, the planning board expressed no concerns with the proposal and viewed the conversion as a good use of the existing building, particularly along the busy Route 281 corridor.
Nick Cortese of Coughlin & Gerhart, who serves as special counsel for the town, informed the board that because the property is located within 500 feet of a county-owned road, Route 281, the plans must first be submitted to County Planning for review. Without that review, any approval from the Cortlandville Planning Board could be rendered moot.
Board members voted unanimously to send the site plan to County Planning for review.
Final approval of the site plan is expected to be considered at the Cortlandville Planning Board’s September 29 meeting.
