Crunch Fitness is preparing to open a new club in El Cerrito during the first quarter of 2027, according to a press release. The announcement followed the company’s acquisition of eight Bay Area locations from the Bay Area Crunchers franchise group.
The acquisition will increase Crunch’s Bay Area ownership to 16 clubs. The company said the transaction will bring its Bay Area locations under a single ownership structure. Brian Calegari, the former operating partner of Bay Area Crunchers, will join Crunch as operating partner for the region.
The planned El Cerrito gym is located at El Cerrito Plaza, at the site formerly occupied by Barnes & Noble, and follows the recent opening of Crunch San Rafael. According to the press release, the El Cerrito club is scheduled to open in the first quarter of 2027. Crunch operates gyms offering cardio and strength equipment, group fitness classes, personal training, and other fitness services.
